For Immediate Release
The Los Angeles County Alliance for Boys & Girls Clubs holds a “STEM with STEAM” forum on June 25 at ABC7 Studios
President Clinton’s former Secretary of Education, Richard Riley, summed up this need for innovation to drive our future when he predicted what is now already occurring.
“The jobs in the greatest demand in the future don’t yet exist and will require workers to use technologies that have not yet been invented to solve problems that we don’t yet even know are problems.”
Los Angeles, CA. June 16, 2014 -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of America Los Angeles County Alliance (BEGREATLA.org) invites you to “STEM with STEAM” at ABC7 Studios in Glendale on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, 8:30am to 12:30pm.
This Forum on Science, Engineering, Technology, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education will share information on best practice efforts currently underway in Los Angeles. The conversation is aimed at helping Educators, Employers and Boys & Girls Clubs of America in Los Angeles to better prepare students of all socio-economic backgrounds for 21st Century jobs. In addition, the Alliance will develop opportunities, provide resources and foster communications among STEAM and Educational professionals that prepare all students to become successful members of a rapidly emerging technological world.
The US education system does what it was designed to do – the problem is that it was formed over 100 years ago in a different time – for a different need – in a different world economy – to satisfy a different life style – using the then available technology. We will demonstrate how our afterschool programs engage our youth in fun, state of the art programs with long lasting results.
To see the speakers, their bios and program go to http://stembgcla.weebly.com/2014-presenters.html
Highlights will include Virgin Galactic, X Prize, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and other STEM/STEAM superstars presenting opportunities and current programs here in LA that are the envy of the nation.
The Los Angeles County Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs is a collaborative of 26 member organizations, representing 140 different Boys & Girls Clubs locations in Los Angeles County serving nearly 140, 000 boys and girls ages six to 18. It is the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
